Lower School Science

Lower School Science

Science practical and investigation work forms an integral part of the Lower School programme.  It focuses on developing students' understanding of "How Science Works" and aims to link practical experience with key scientific ideas.  Safe laboratory practice is taught throughout the whole of the Lower School Science course.

In both Years 7 and 8 a range of teaching and learning techniques are used.  Each topic includes activities that are assessment tasks.  Students are set clear targets to help them understand how they can improve.  Tests are set at the end of each unit or topic section.  At the end of Year 8, a transition programme of study is followed to introduce students to the skills required for GSCE level Science.
